CARMEN CONSOLI
The Sicilian-born Carmen Consoli is
the most successful female singer-songwriter Italy has ever produced.
The 35 year-old musician is known for her unflinching emotional live
performances of songs that examine broad themes of love, illness,
solitude and friendship from a feminine -- and feminist -- perspective.
Her innovative mixture of Italian song with indie-rock influences,
bossa nova rhythms, and jazz and blues-inspired riffs have engendered a
sound unique on the Italian music scene. Consoli has seven studio
albums and two live albums to her credit, all platinum albums in Italy
that have sold cumulatively over 1 million copies. She has been a
multiple honoree at the MTV Italy Music Awards as well as at the
Taormina Film Festival for the soundtrack of the international hit film
“L’Ultimo Bacio” (The Last Kiss).
This show is on sale now.

This enthralling melodrama from Italian master Marco Bellocchio is ignited by Giovanna Messogiorno's
magnificent performance as Ida Dalser, the woman who bore Benito
Mussolini's illegitimate child and then spent her life struggling to
make the powerful dictator acknowledge her and their son. Dalser and
Mussolini (Filippo Timi) begin a passionate affair in 1914, and
she supports him financially, but after their son is born he marries
Rachele Guidi and embarks on his rise. Director Bellocchio stages the
story with the flourish and style of grand opera, spicing scenes with
dynamic newsreel footage, animated typography and Carlo Crivelli's
terrific music score. It's a highly entertaining depiction of 20th
century history as well as a compelling story that was secret until
recently. In Italian with English subtitles. (Italy 2009) 122 min.

Middle-aged Gianni resides with his 93-year-old mother in their ancient apartment. Broke and armed with only a glass of wine and a wry sense of humor, he agrees to look after the building manager?s mother during Italy?s biggest summer holiday, the Feast of the Assumption. Soon the manager's Aunt enters the picture, and another friend appears with his mother in tow... Can Gianni keep four feisty mamas well fed and happy in these cramped quarters? Mid-August Lunch is a warmly vibrant family drama and delicately balanced comedy of manners. It shows life in all of its imperfections, making us think about the inevitability of aging while appreciating its bitter-sweet journey.
Winner of numerous prizes at international festivals. In Italian with English subtitles, 75 min.
