Marin Italians

Lido Cantarutti, director of the Italian Film Festival of Marin County, announced today the films for the seven-week fall festival, including a special screening of a treasured Italian silent film.

Festival Films:

• September 30  My Best Enemy   Il mio miglior nemico, comedy, 2006, directed by Carlo Verdone

• October 7   The Fever   La febbre, romance, 2005, directed by Alessandro D'Alatri

• October 14   Manual of Love   Manuale d'amore, 2005, comedy, directed by Giovanni Veronesi

• October 22 Good Morning, Night   Buongiorno, notte, 2003, historical drama, directed by Marco Bellocchio at the Lark Theater
  

• October 28    13 at a Table   13dici a tavola, 2004, romantic comedy, directed by Enrico Oldoini and starring Giancarlo Giannini

• November 4     When Do the Girls Show Up?  Ma quando arrivano le ragazze?  2004, drama, romance/comedy, directed by Pupi Avati

• November 11, La Grazia, 1929, love story, directed by Aldo De Benedetti

A lecture and slide presentation by the American Italian Historical Association/Western Regional Chapter in collaboration with the Marin History Museum.

The Marin History Museum is partnering with the American Italian Historical Association/Western Regional Chapter (AIHA/WRC) Treasurer Richard Vannucci and oral historian Marilyn Longinotti Geary on this unique presentation which will be held at San Rafael City Hall (Council Chambers) followed by a special reception at the Marin History Museum.

This year marks the 100th birthday of Italian master Roberto Rossellini. In celebration the Italian Movie "Il Divo" at San Rafael Film Center presents a beautifully restored print of one of his most celebratory films, as well as a strange and wonderful short film tribute made by his daughter Isabella in collaboration with Canadian director Guy Maddin. The filmmaker mostly closely associated with Italian Neorealism, Roberto Rossellini was also the most straightforward and uncompromising in his depiction of reality.

The successful Rosetta Stone (software) is free online via the Mill Valley Marin Library.

Congratulations to Italy and all the soccer fans around the world who wore blue, waved the tricolore and rooted for their team through all the nail-biting moments.

It wasn't as pretty as the Germany game, but it sure was exciting to see the end of the penalty-kick juju and a little payback to the French for 1998.

Enjoy the sounds of jazz, swing, rock, R&B, a cappella and much more at the Italian Street Painting Festival in San Rafael.  Saturday and Sunday, June 10th & 11th.

Venues range from main stage prerformances that rock the crowd and intimate café ambience to strolling musician and the sounds of Banda Italiana on the steps of Mission San Rafael Arcangel. Whatever your style, you will find the entertainment for you. Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival showcases the talents of dozens of performing groups who share the festival spotlight with our street painters.
