Panettone is in town! Print E-mail
Saturday, 13 December 2008

panettone.jpgPanettone is the traditional Italian Christmas cake. Originally from Milano, panettone is usually prepared and enjoyed for Christmas and New Year around Italy.
It is served in slices, vertically cut, accompanied with sweet hot beverages or a sweet wine, such as Moscato or Spumante. In some regions of Italy, it is served with Crema di Mascarpone, a cream made from mascarpone cheese, eggs and typically a sweet liqueur such as Amaretto; if mascarpone cheese is unavailable, zabaglione is sometimes used as a substitute to Crema di Mascarpone.

Here is a list of stores in Marin where you can find panettone:

Rulli - Larkspur: Panettone artigianale (milanese, genevose, noci e cioccolato)
Paradise Market - Corte Madera - Panettone Maina (tradizionale, cioccolato, tiramisu) Pandoro Maina, Pandoro Perugina

Viva viva la Befana!

La Befana
Museo ItaloAmericano
Fort Mason Center, Building C
San Francisco, CA 94123

The Legend of La Befana, written by Emelise Aleandri, is a delightful musical and dramatic recreation, for children and adults alike, of the story of the good Italian Christmas Witch who visits children on the eve of the Epiphany and leaves presents for good children but coal, stones and ashes for naughty ones. La Befana narrates as other colorful characters from the legend come to life. The company sings Christmas songs in both English and Italian, and leads the children in singing and some dancing but adults are equally entertained and informed by the show.
