We had two great events for I Cuccioli in November/December:
Festive Wreaths in Italian
Four candles and a fragrant ring of rosemary and pine were truly the advent of Cuccioli's seasonal celebration together. In late November local artist, teacher and Italian speaking Asja Stefanek led a group of families in a traditional European wreath-making class. The custom is to light one candle for each Sunday leading up to Christmas when finally all the candles become illuminated for the family's Christmas eve celebration.
Candles and Biscotti
What can be dipped and rolled? Cuccioli discovered the fun with both beeswax and Italian biscotti "Le Treccine." After slowly and patiently dipping wicks into pure liquid beeswax - "Che buon profumo?" one said breathing in the warm scent as the candles grew fatter - the children rolled and twisted ropes of dough into edible delights. Some children devoured the biscotti instantly, while others savored slowly, dipping them into warm apple cider. The families also rolled a sheet of honeycomb into a candlestick, finishing it up with a festive candle holder of aromatic pine, lichen and berries.

The Feast of the Epiphany and the tradition of “La Befana”, are a big part of Italian Christmas celebrations. Both are celebrated on January 6 in Italy.
Parliamo Italiano! Italiamore Preschool organizes a workshop for kids to celebrate the arrival of “La Befana”. Children will decorate their stockings which will be filled with gifts, traditionally of the alimentary sort, such as dried fruits, apples, oranges, tangerines and nuts which are also a reflection of the winter solstice.
Bring a big stocking for your child to decorate. They will provide the material for decoration and the gifts.
