Before the Roman Catholic Church came into existence, however, this holiday was celebrated in the Roman Empire to honor the gods—in particular Diana—and the cycle of fertility and ripening. In fact, the present Italian name of the holiday derives from its original Latin name, Feriae Augusti (Fairs of the Emperor Augustus).

Marin Italians is a group of Italians in the San Francisco Bay Area who
meet regularly to promote Italian language, culture, businesses and
activities.
Events are focused on Marin County and North Bay.
Our Members meet on a regular basis for outings, conversation practice, social events, playdates and announce interesting educational opportunities.
