Pupi Avati's films are always a hit with our audience, and this year's film, When Do the Girls Show Up?, is certain to bring the enjoyment of witnessing the development of young lives and  their careers in music, and including comic elements and a rich melodic backdrop.{/quote}

The films are shown two times in the Marin Center Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, CA and at the Lark Theater in Larkspur, CA. Single tickets are $12 each. A series ticket for all seven films is $77. For information and to order tickets, contact the Marin Center Box Office at (415) 499-6800, or visit the Festival's web site.

This is the thirtieth year the Italian Film Festival has been produced by Lido Cantarutti. The Festival displays modern and classic Italian films in a festive atmosphere. A Marin County newspaper describes the Festival as "joining an Italian family for a night."

Lido Cantarutti has been honored by the Italian government on numerous occasions, most recently in 2001 with the conferral of knighthood and the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale nell'Ordine Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana.  This year he has been selected by San Francisco's Columbus Day Celebration to receive their Christopher Columbus Award, bestowed upon individuals "who represent the highest ideals of service and leadership in the Italian community."  Past recipients include former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto.

About The Italian Film Festival

Originally started as an informal, one-time only presentation of Italian movies in a college lecture hall, the Italian Film Festival of Marin County has grown over its 30 years into a perennial favorite in the San Francisco Bay Area. From the beginning it has been a labor of love for its longtime director, Lido Cantarutti. Under his direction the program has included appearances from Italian film directors and composers, dignitaries of the Italian and Italian-American communities, and an authentically Italian atmosphere at every presentation. The centerpiece, however, is always top-quality Italian cinema.

Over its history, the Italian Film Festival's formula has proven quite successful as sell-out audiences are normal. For many, attendance at the Festival is motivated by the chance to savor the Italian experience, as much as by the opportunity to see a great movie! As a result the Festival has made many friends over the years. Devoted fans of the Festival include members of the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco. Recent Consuls General and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute have provided strong support for the program, through promotion and publicity and in official recognition for the Festival from the Italian Government in Rome.
