A lecture and slide presentation by the American Italian Historical Association/Western Regional Chapter in collaboration with the Marin History Museum.
The Marin History Museum is partnering with the American Italian Historical Association/Western Regional Chapter (AIHA/WRC) Treasurer Richard Vannucci and oral historian Marilyn Longinotti Geary on this unique presentation which will be held at San Rafael City Hall (Council Chambers) followed by a special reception at the Marin History Museum. “Italians of Marin County” Date: Saturday, August 26, 2pm – 4:30pm
Location: Presentation (2pm – 3:30pm) Time: Reception (3:30pm – 4:30pm): Marin History Museum 1125 B Street, San Rafael
Marilyn Longinotti Geary, a Marin resident, has assembled a fascinating collection of oral histories on Marin County’s Italian immigrants. Geary has recorded some subjects herself, and also has consulted previously recorded oral histories. The result is an audio/visual presentation that includes recordings of some early Marin County Italian residents as well as a historical overview of the area.
Richard Vannucci will add his personal childhood experiences of summer life in Fairfax. His family traveled to predominantly Italian Fairfax each summer and spent idyllic days in what was then a sleepy town. Vannucci says there is still a street in Fairfax which locals call "Little Italy." Vannucci will supplement his recollections with artifacts of daily life including winemaking equipment and family photos.
From the Marin IJ review {quote}Do you remember Guilliermo Baglietto, the noted Marin politician who represented the county in the state Assembly from 1960 to 1974 and later served on the University of California's Board of Regents? Doesn't ring a bell? Perhaps that's because Baglietto's name was changed years earlier to William Bagley. Bagley was one of several Marin descendants of Italian natives whose taped oral histories were played Saturday during a meeting of the Marin History Museum and the American Italian Historical Association. More than 150 people, most of them Italian, attended the event at San Rafael City Hall.{quote}
We hope to see you at this special collaborative presentation and reception!
